The name of my ancestor that first came to Portugal was Louis Germen Le Cocq. He first came to Portugal in 1789, after the Great Fear of 1789. Although he left after the Great Fear, I don’t think that the great fear was in anyway related to the great fear, just because he wasn’t a land lord. The Great Fear started in July 20th and lasted sixteen days. Basically, the peasants armed themselves and attacked mannor houses in response to the armed vagrants armed by the noble men that were guarding the grains. The peasants thought that the noble men hired the vagrants to protect the peasants from the grains, and that they were also palnning on preying the villages. The peasents ransacked the manors and destroyed feudal documents that recorded feudal obligations. The peasents also attacked grain supplies, which affected merchants, but foccused more on destroying the feudal obligations. He was a somewhat important banker, and he was afraid of how the things were going in France. Later, he married a Portuguese woman and had several kids. I don’t really know how he got to Portugal, but the best guess I have is that he came in a carriage. Most likely Louis left all of his family behind, because he was the only Le Cocq to come to Portugal. He was a single man, and I don’t know how old he was, but I am guessing he was in between 10 years old to twenty years old, because he only married later. Later, his grandsons bought a farm, which my family still owns, and they were the first people to make champagne in Portugal. That is pretty much all I know. hello joao
